My husband, Dee Brausch, took this picture of the Albany papermill in July 2011. It closed down for good in December 2009. The white building, recovery boiler, in the picture was demolished in July 2012. This landmark identified Albany as the “armpit of the Wilamette Valley”. I’ve lived in Albany all my life and remember that smell well. I think a new identity is in order for our town. I’m hopeful that the Albany carousel project will help form that new identity.
